Relying on local knowledge.

Providing grants to grassroots groups has several challenges including: identifying groups that often are in remote areas, communicating with these groups to get all the right information, transferring funds to organizations that may not have received money before, and monitoring progress.

FASOL overcomes these barriers by working with local volunteer mentors (scientists, teachers, leaders, activists, etc..), who are intimately familiar with the issues and who know the the most urgent and promising local projects. Knowledge, vision and dedication of our advisors are key to our efficient and effective process for awarding grants.

We put together decades of social and environmental expertise to make informed decisions about financial support. Because our advisors work directly with the grassroots groups they recommend, our costs of grant making are considerably lower, meaning that more funds go directly into program work.
