Juan Francisco Garcia R. Originally from Mexico City, Juan is a part of the Generation of ’68 and a long-time activist. He has been living in San Blas, Nayarit since 1970, working on social and environmental causes. In 1998 he and some other local activists founded Grupo Ecólogico Manglar A.C. (Mangrove Ecology Group) where Juan is currently the Secretary. Grupo Ecológico Manglar is a non-governmental organization that promotes the protection of natural resources in the region through community organizing of people directly dependent on natural resources, especially fishermen, rural workers, women and youth groups. Juan has created a cottage industry of banana bread that today supports a number of people in the region. Laura Martínez Río Del Río Laura is a founding member and current Director of Pro-Esteros, a nongovernmental nonprofit organization that provides support to grassroots groups and advice to numerous NGOs in the State of Baja California. Pro Esteros is highly regarded for its commitment to conservation and community organizing. Laura's work focuses on promoting environmental education, particularly with high school students. Sandra Guido S. Sandra holds a Masters Degree in Oceanography at the Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education of Ensenada (CICESE). She also works in the area of environmental education at the Aquaculture and Environmental Research Center for Food and Development, AC (ICDA) in the city of Mazatlan, Sinaloa. Sandra develops environmental education programs on the marine and coastal environment, as well as programs for primary schools. She is the coordinator of the Network of Environmental Educators in the state of Sinaloa, a nongovernmental organization that works towards creating a sustainable society through education. Maryló Mandujano Herrera Maryló is a marine biologist with a degree in environmental education from the Ecological Research Institute in Malaga, Spain. She currently works for Natural Systems and Development, AC (SINADES), a non-profit, in Pescadero, Baja California Sur.
